Site Visit: Paris 2024 Olympic Athletes Village

In October 2022, we visited the Paris 2024 Athletes’ Village, where approximately 40–50 residential buildings were under construction.

The development will accommodate around 14,000 athletes and staff during the Games. Post-Games, the village will transition into a permanent mixed-use neighbourhood comprising:

  • 2,800 new housing units, of which 25–40% will be social housing

  • 68% of energy demand supplied by near-surface geothermal systems

  • 120,000 sqm of office space

  • Two schools, two nurseries, a renovated high school, and new sports facilities

  • Seven hectares of green open space

The visit included a walk-through of the site to understand how the Athletes’ Village integrates into a broader urban regeneration programme designed to reconnect three surrounding neighbourhoods. The village is one component of a wider investment strategy that includes the Grand Paris Express metro expansion, new parks and public realm upgrades, enhanced community sports infrastructure, and improved walking and cycling connections between districts.
